KAPA‘A — Looking for an early holiday gift that will last a lifetime?
A NaniGirl Basics “Playshop” on Dec. 8 will provide young women with valuable life skills as they transition into adulthood.
The “playshop” is from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Courtyard Marriott at Kaua‘i Coconut Beach in Kapa‘a. The curriculum will emphasize the importance of manners and etiquette, good communication skills, developing inner strength and confidence, respecting oneself, as well as others, and goal setting.
“Nani” is the Hawaiian word for beauty, strength, greatness and honor. NaniGirl events empower participants ages 13 to 18 by beginning the process of discovering their potential.
NaniGirl is a collaboration between two longtime friends who share the same vision — empowering women with a sense of purpose and self-worth. Yuki Mossman and Amy Franklin developed the curriculum to teach girls in a fun, relaxed, interactive and safe atmosphere.
Mossman, who has lived on Kaua‘i since 1980, is the owner of Hawaiian Island Models, which first opened its doors in 2000. She is an advocate of young women and has been a member of the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i, whose mission is to advance the status of women worldwide. She is a graduate of the Sears Charm School.
Franklin, a professional model, actor and entertainer, has lived in Hawai‘i since 1978. She is an avid student of Hawaiian culture and has developed workshops for mature women. Now, she looks forward to sharing a lifetime of experience with younger women.
Mossman said, for her, it is all about working with the youth of the community and giving them real life skills for the future.
If the workshop is successful, Mossman said she and Franklin plan to expand the classes to serve women in other areas of life.
The cost of the one-day NaniGirl Basics “Playshop” is $149, which include a guest speaker, course materials, a photo session and surprises. The event is for girls ages 13 to 18. Seating is limited.
