Many people on Kaua‘i are drinking up this delicious beverage, and bubble drinks at Jo-Jo’s are something special.
On my first of two visits to Jo-Jo’s, I entered at the wrong time — right after school, around 1:30 p.m. The shop was crowded with students clamoring for bubble drinks.
Store Manager Shelly Koerte said people should come in the morning to beat the crowds.
Koerte also told me about the shop’s most popular beverage — the honeydew bubble drink with strawberry juice-balls.
Jo-Jo’s honeydew bubble drink, $4.75, is a simple mixture made out of ice, water, simple syrup, powdered flavor and ice cream. What makes this honeydew bubble drink different from others are the juice balls on the bottom of the drink. The juice balls, filled with strawberry flavor, are a delicious addition to an already onolicious beverage.
After sampling the honeydew bubble drink with strawberry juice balls, I understood why Jo-Jo’s is often packed with customers. There is no other place on the island more known for its shave ice than Jo-Jo’s, but I get the feeling that won’t be the only thing Jo-Jo’s will be known for.
