HANALEI — A visitor suffering from heat exhaustion Monday afternoon required an air rescue from a Na Pali Coast beach.
Hanalei fire station received a 5:30 p.m. call from county dispatch about a man suffering from heat exhaustion. The victim was alone and heading back out on the trail from the Hanakapia‘i Beach area when he reportedly could not continue after about 200 yards.
Hikers on the way out took his information and called dispatch from the phone at Ke‘e Beach, according to county communications.
Rescue 3 was called with Air 1 to assist in retrieving the victim, a 41-year-old male from Novato, Calif. He was retrieved by Rescue 3 and brought back up the trail and loaded on to Air 1.
The victim was flown to Princeville Airport where a medic unit was waiting to transport him to Wilcox Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
