LIHU‘E — An accident on Rice late Wednesday morning sent a woman to the hospital.
The responding officer reported that a vehicle was turning out of Dani’s Restaurant parking lot just before noon Wednesday when it struck another vehicle traveling south on Rice Street. The 77-year-old female passenger of the car that was struck sustained injuries, according to the report from County communications.
The woman was seated in the rear-passenger seat and complained of pain. Kaua‘i Fire Department medics also responded and the woman was transferred to Wilcox Memorial Hospital by ambulance where she remains in stable condition.
The vehicle turning out of Dani’s sustained minor damage to the front bumper. The vehicle that was struck sustained damage to the passenger front and rear doors, according to the county.
Traffic was reduced to one-lane for the duration of the accident and first-responders attending to the victim. Police controlled flow by alternating each traffic direction until the emergency vehicles left the seen.
