KOLOA — The 10th annual Old Koloa Sugar Mill Run is set for Nov. 17. It begins at Anne Knudsen Park in Koloa.
Runners can choose to pound the pavement on a 10-mile run, 10K run or a 5K run/walk. The 10-mile run will stretch down into Poi‘pu and go just past the Poi‘pu Bay Golf Course before turning around and heading back to Anne Knudsen Park.
Upon return, runners will be greeted with a continental breakfast, which is free to all participants and $7 for family, friends or visitors.
The 10-mile race will start at 7 a.m., with the 10K race following at 7:15 a.m. and the 5K at 7:30 a.m., with the winners being announced at about 9:30 a.m.
“They will win trophies and ribbons for each of the divisions, and the divisions are by age groups,” Race Director Tom Lodico said. “Of course there is the first place winners of each of the races themselves.”
Registration through Nov. 16 will cost $35. To register the day of the event, it will cost $40. Those who register will get a free T-shirt or tank top, however early registration is encouraged to insure T-shirt size availability.
Race packet pickup will be held on Nov. 16 between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Kukui Grove Center exhibit area, near Deja Vu Surf Hawai‘i and Zales.
Net proceeds go to local student scholarships for students attending Kaua‘i Community College and the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, according to the release.
“We tend to give away at least five to six scholarships a year,” said Lodico.
The race will be timed by JTL timing.
“We have a professional timer that comes in from the Big Island,” Lodico said. “So people can get official credit for this. The hardcore runners want the official credit for the run.”
In addition to breakfast, T-shirts and Hawaiian music, prizes will also be given out.
“We give out prizes, too,” Lodico said. “We have donors who contribute and give out our prizes”
