LIHU‘E — The first 25 people with a $20 or more donation to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kaua‘i on Dec. 21 will receive one of the traditional handcrafted kendama from Iwaki City, Japan.
“A Christmas Wish for Kaua‘i: Kids Helping Kids” is a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters Kaua‘i at The Jam Room at Kukui Grove Center from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 21.
The Jam Room is hosting this event with proceeds to benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters Kaua‘i and raise funds for its school and community based programs, states a release from The Jam Room.
The kendama from Iwaki City, Japan were donated to The Jam Room when a delegation of tourism officials from Kaua‘i’s sister city visited the Matsuri Kaua‘i Festival.
In addition to the kendama, the Jam Room will be offering 50 Secret Santa’s Grab Bags filled with items from Japan for contributions of $1, $5 and $10.
Free prize drawings for premiums including Tutti Frutti gift certificates, random gift give-aways and Christmas candy will he held throughout the night.
During the silent auction, which will be going on during the event, world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao’s collectible doll will be auctioned off as well as a fresh Kaua‘i-grown Norfolk contributed by Kalaheo Flowers.
Daphne Sanchez, who performs each year at Spa Resort Hawaiians, Japan’s largest Hawaiian resort and amusement center in Iwaki City, will be hosting the evening featuring Kaua‘i’s youth.
The Jam Room, established in 2009, is a free venue to showcase young talent to perform in a safe and secure environment. It is located adjacent to Game Stop at Kukui Grove Center.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Kaua‘i was established in 2007 and provides free, one-to-one mentoring relationships for the children of Kaua‘i facing adversity in both the community and school based programs.
