Hunt Companies promotes Bustamante
HONOLULU — Hunt Companies announced recently that Jose Bustamante has been promoted, and now serves as vice president of Hunt Companies’ Hawai‘i region development division.
Bustamante is currently developing Hunt’s Kilauea Lighthouse Village — a 50,000-square-foot, mixed-use retail center on Kaua‘i’s North Shore.
Bustamante joined the company as development manager in November 2010.
“Jose stepped up to take the lead on projects at Kalaeloa and Kilauea Lighthouse Village, and we are confident that these properties will continue to flourish in his capable hands,” said Steve Colón, president of Hunt’s Hawai‘i development division. “Throughout his time at Hunt Companies, Jose has not only shown exemplary leadership and management skills, but also inspires a genuine spirit of aloha in collaborating with the community on Hunt’s projects.”
As the lead for the Kalaeloa master development project, Bustamante directs the real estate development, master planning and asset management initiatives of Hunt’s 540-acre property in Kalaeloa, including 600,000 square feet of existing industrial, retail and office buildings.
He will focus on maximizing the performance and value of the company’s real estate assets in Kalaeloa through development, asset repositioning, leasing, sales, joint ventures and operations management.
Prior to joining Hunt Companies, Bustamante was a commercial real estate investment and leasing broker for CBRE in San Francisco.
He was also a real estate development analyst for the New York City Economic Development Corporation, where he participated in the redevelopment of a 400,000-square-foot, mixed-use project in lower Manhattan.
He also served as a captain and military intelligence officer in the U.S. Army, where he had top secret security clearance and participated in wartime and peacekeeping operations throughout Europe, Asia and the U.S.
Bustamante earned a master’s degree in real estate development from Columbia University in New York and a bachelor’s degree in law from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
He also received advanced management certification from Stanford University and holds the Certified Commercial Investment Member designation.
A long-time O‘ahu resident, Bustamante grew up and lived in Kapolei for 20 years.
Pavao earns Timeshare with Aloha award from ARDA-Hawai‘i
PRINCEVILLE — The American Resort Development Association of Hawai‘i selected Julie Pavao, executive assistant at The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas, as a Timeshare with Aloha recipient.
Pavao is the first to receive Kaua‘i’s 2012 Timeshare Employee of the Year award through the statewide program that recognizes those in the hospitality industry that go beyond the call of duty.
“Julie Pavao best represents all of the qualities we envisioned in creating the Timeshare with Aloha awards,” said ARDA-Hawai‘i Chair Daniel Dinell. “With her demonstrated commitment to the growth and development in the resort and timeshare industry, and equal dedication to her community by helping to organize the Hawai‘i Hotel and Lodging Association’s Visitor Industry Charity Walk, Julie truly deserves this well-earned recognition from her peers.”
ARDA-Hawai‘i established the “Timeshare with Aloha” awards this year to showcase and reward committed industry professionals who make Hawai‘i a special place to visit.
Paveo will receive a two-night stay at a Hawai‘i timeshare resort and $1,000 to spend during her vacation.
Pavao has been with Starwood Vacation Ownership since 1987.
According to Denise Wardlow, general manager at The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas, Pavao is one of the main reasons why associates describe working at the resort as being part of an extended ‘ohana.
“To her staff and guests, she is known as ‘Aunty Julie’ and she is always willing to listen and help whenever she can,” said Wardlow. “She also embodies the aloha spirit as evidenced through her strong work ethic and her ability to ensure that guests’ needs are being met.”
Pavao enjoys being active in the community and in addition to her participation in organizing the Visitor Industry Charity Walk on Kaua‘i, she has also participated in the Relay For Life, Adopt-A-Highway, the Westin Princeville Charity Golf Tournament and the resort’s Silent Auction for the Kaua‘i Lifeguards Association.
