Sunday morning football and onolicious entrees go hand in hand. Don’t you think? That’s exactly what you can expect at Kalapaki Joe’s in Po‘ipu.
Every weekend from 7 to 11 a.m., Kalapaki Joe’s serves up the heartiest breakfast on the south side of Kaua‘i. And if you’re a resident of Kaua‘i and have a valid state ID listing a Kaua‘i address, you get a 50 percent discount on one entree from 7 to 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
If you’re one of those weekenders who likes to sleep in, you should wake up early, brush your teeth — bed-head is OK — and enjoy one of the many delicious entrees served at Joe’s.
Jody Valente, owner of Kalapaki Joe’s, treated Kaua‘i Times to three spectacularly delicious and hearty dishes that make for an outstanding consolation prize to a Colts fan who just witnessed a slaughtering defeat by the Patriots.
First up from the kitchen was a delicious Kauaian version of a classic Mexican dish: Huevos Rancheros, $9.99. This south of the island dish consists of scrambled eggs served over hash browns with chorizo sausage, salsa rojo, avocados, sour cream and tortillas.
Next up was a breakfast fit for us omnivores, but leaned slightly more to the carnivore inside us. The Longboard Breakfast, $10.99, is a hearty da kine filled with two eggs of any style, two pieces of bacon, two pieces of link sausages, two pieces of Portuguese sausages, home fries and served with fresh fruit.
Hey veggie lovers, we didn’t forget about you. A great, healthier alternative is the Veggie Scramble, $10.99. The Veggie Scramble is packed with sautéed mushrooms onions, tomatoes, zucchini and olives. It is covered with melted cheese and avocado, and is served with pico, homemade fries and fresh fruit.
Let’s digress from food for a moment and focus and an American pastime that brings tears to both men and women — American football. Kalapaki Joe’s is all about food, a good time and lots and lots of football. In both the Po‘ipu and Lihu‘e locations, Kalapaki Joe’s offers full-packages of football viewing pleasure — both NCAA and NFL.
“Regarding the weekend and football, we have all the football packages,” Valente said. “We have the NCAA packages — the Pac-12 Network, MountainWest Sports channel. We have all the channels. We cover all the channels available on Kaua‘i for football.”
Be sure to check out Kalapaki Joe’s in Lihu‘e on Jan. 7 at 3 p.m. as UFC ring girls Arianny Celeste and Brittney Palmer host a televised broadcast of the Bowl Championship Series National Championship game between Notre Dame and Alabama. Celeste and Palmer will also be signing calendars throughout the game.
