Talk about perfect timing! This time of year it is hard to resist all the goodies that just seem to be stacking up everywhere. I’ve even had people bring some decadent goodies into some of my exercise classes. How nice is it that the Kaua‘i Athletic Club owners have decided to put together a program to help us all get back in shape and lose the holiday surplus.
The goal of this plan is simple — to help inspire and motivate people toward achieving the healthy and fit body they have always wanted.
Here’s how the plan works. The contest runs for 12 weeks from January 14 to April 7. However, people can join at any time during the contest, which is open to individuals, couples or teams of three or four people. Progress is based on percent fat loss, as measured by KAC certified personal fitness trainers with specific equipment purchased for this purpose. Measurements are taken on day one and every four weeks throughout the competition. The winners are declared based on the total amount of fat loss over the duration of the contest. Special rate training packages are available for the contest for individuals, couples or team training sessions.
And what can you win? Besides getting the healthy, fit body you desire, you can also score some great stuff. The prizes up for grabs are: A full one-year KAC membership, a Kukui Grove Center shopping spree, a weekend getaway at Kaua‘i Beach Resort, KAC logo gear and more from various island merchants.
So, how do you get involved? First, you need to be a member of KAC, which is easier now than ever as there is a special reduced membership fee (10 percent off) in place, as well as a waived initiation fee. Secondly, there is a $20 contest entry fee per individual that comes with a special contest T-shirt, water bottle and exercise nutrition log that you can use to stay on track. There are specials on training packages from the certified fitness trainers at the club and also specials on the specialty classes at KAC. For those who are already members at KAC, all you need to do is join the contest, get your stuff and get started.
Why not get a corporate team together at work and get everyone involved? The team spirit can do a lot to help you personally stay on track and create a healthier, more vibrant work place. During this contest time frame at KAC, certified trainers will be conducting special clinics and workshops to assist you in your fat loss goals. This is not a weight loss contest, per se, but fat loss. You may in fact build up some muscle and be in generally better shape and could even weigh a little more. But if you are leaner and have less fat, that shows an improvement in overall fitness.
Lean body mass/fat ratio is one of the leading indicators of health and fitness and muscle is denser and weighs more than fat.
Muscle is also more metabolically active which means it helps keep you leaner in the long run.
The kickoff for this event is January 14 at 7 p.m. at the KAC in Nawiliwili, but you can register any time between now and then. At registration you will receive your info package, your free gear and nutrition guidelines as well. You will be given an orientation to the club, the services and contest benefits, as well as meet with the trainers to talk about your specific goals and needs.
I personally can’t think of a better way to start the new year and achieve your personal fitness goals than to join in the fun and work toward winning the body of your dreams, along with some free stuff.
I look forward to seeing you at KAC and helping you achieve your best in health, fitness and vitality, as well as answer any fitness or nutritional questions that you may have. What have you got to lose?
