WAIMEA — The Thirteenth Annual Burns Supper will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Waimea Plantation Cottages from 5 p.m.
The Ali‘i Strings will play selections of Celtic music from Britain during the mingling hour.
At 5:45, the Celtic Pipes and Drums of Hawai‘i will march into the assembly and perform their opening set.
Then the fun truly begins with toasts galore, special performances and much piping.
During Senator Daniel K. Inouye’s services at Punchbowl several weeks ago, the Celtic Pipes played the haunting refrain, “Danny Boy.”
They may be prevailed upon to play that famous Irish song again.
This year, the event is proud to boast a special performance by world champion bagpiper Jori Chisholm. Chisholm, who hails from the Seattle area, performs with the Simon Fraser Pipe Band — always one of the premier bands in the world and often winning the world title in Scotland, according to a news release. Chisholm is a world champion in his own right, and is also accomplished in other wind instruments and plays with a Celtic musical group that has a CD called Bagpipe Revolution.
The Cottages will provide cuisine with a Celtic touch complete with a taste of haggis and Scotland’s most famous beverage — Scotch.
The musicians will give a free performance around the Captain Cook Statue in Hofgaard Park, Waimea on Friday, Feb. 1, starting at 5:15 p.m. Band members and Chisholm will be on hand to give a demonstration on how to learn to play the bagpipes and the Celtic drums.
