ANAHOLA — An afternoon brush fire burned about 30 acres near Anahola Beach Park yesterday.
The fire, which was reported by a resident at 3:52 p.m., scorched an area near Kukuihale and Manai Roads, county officials said.
Two homes were evacuated, but county officials said that no property damage or injuries were reported.
Engines 2 and 8, and trucks 2 and 8 responded to the fire, along with Air 1. The fire was deemed under control by 6:15 p.m. Firefighters, however, were still battling hot spots well after dark.
The Kaua‘i Police Department closed Kukuihale Road at Pilipoli Road, and Manai Road at Anahola Road, for a few hours until KFD fully extinguished the blaze.
The fire was fully extinguished by 7:30 p.m., and the roads were re-opened at that time as well, county officials said.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
