LIHU‘E — A free, monthly walking tour of the County Historic Building has been extended through 2013, according to a county press release.
The Kaua‘i County Council, the Kaua‘i Historical Society and the Kaua‘i Museum present a guided tour of Kaua‘i’s first government building the first Friday of every month from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. (with the exception of April 5).
Following the tour, visitors are encouraged to attend the Kaua‘i Museum’s First Friday Hawaiian Pa‘ina, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the courtyard at the Kaua‘i Museum. Attendees will be treated to a lunch of traditional local cuisine by chef Mark Oyama and live Hawaiian music. Reservations can be made by calling 245-6931.
The one-hour tour begins on the front steps of the Historic County Building and will take visitors on a walk through time, beginning when the property was first acquired in 1912 to present day.
As Hawai‘i’s only continuously used government building, visitors will be guided through the County Council offices, including the newly renovated conference rooms and Council Chambers to learn how the various rooms are used for County government functions.
