The West Kaua‘i Lions Club, the first Lions Club to be chartered on Kaua‘i on Nov. 15, 1937, will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of its charter on Saturday.
Reservations are being accepted from Lions, present and former members, family and supporters for the dinner, which will be celebrated at Wongs Chinese Restaurant in Hanapepe.
Lion Eric Nordmeier of the West Kaua‘i Lions Club said seating is limited to this event and people are encouraged to make their reservations with Stanwood Kanna at 335-5554.
“The Kanna family of Hanapepe is one family still active with the club,” Nordmeier said in an email. “Lion Dr. Stan Kanna’s grandfather, Lion Jack Kanna, a charter member, was one of many who had a vision to get together and help the community with service projects.”
Lion George Kanna, Lion Stan’s father, was also an active member of the club, Lion Stan continuing the tradition of being a Lion and an active member of the West Kaua‘i Lions Club.
“The Kanna family has grown with the club for its more than 75 years,” Nordmeier said. “Collectively, the Kanna family has more than 100 years of membership and service to the community.”
Lion Charles Ortiz, president of the West Kaua‘i Lions Club, said the club’s members want to thank the community for its continued support.
For reservations, call Lion Stan at 335-5554. For information on the West Kaua‘i Lions Club, email Nordmeier at LionNordmeier@aol.com.
