Leslie Bell, team leader for the Global Village team leaving Saturday, offered free ice cream to the first four volunteers to help unload Bob McNamara’s load of plywood on Wednesday at the Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity’s Anahola home site.
It was raining, so the volunteers got a break, working inside, except Jack Gardner of New Jersey (he remembers working in ‘Ele‘ele in 2007) and Kira Schwartz of California who were trimming windows.
First-time Global Village volunteers Sarah Evans of Virgina Beach and Shalini Bhatia of San Francisco got to learn drywall because of the rain.
Congratulations to Rebecca Smith — no Caroline Texeira or Chantal Zarbaugh to help her celebrate — her second grandchild on New Year’s!
Kudos to Brycen Hiraoka who got all the kagami mochi set up throughout the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital for the New Year’s. Now, did everyone have ozoni?
Mahalo to Ed Kawamura for the hospitality during the mochitsuki on Sunday! With all the mochi, it’s definitely going to be a good year.
