LIHU‘E — In two separate incidents, fire broke out in Anahola and Lihu‘e.
Shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, a brush fire broke out in Anahola, according to police chatter.
It was reported that “Buffalo grass and other types of grass” were fueling the blaze.
Truck 2 and Rescue 3 were dispatched to the fire, and the fire was completely contained by 7:30 p.m., with crews working on extinguishing “large logs” eight-plus inches in diameter.
On Friday, a small fire broke outside of Kalepa Village apartment complex, according to county spokeswoman Sarah Blane.
At approximately 2:10 p.m., a building fire was reported at a second floor apartment in Kalepa Village, according to Blane.
The maintenance supervisor was first alerted to the fire and began to extinguish it with a fire extinguisher prior to the Kauai Fire Department’s arrival.
Firefighters arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the blaze, Blane said.
The fire was contained to the outside of the apartment, and there was exterior damage to the front of the unit, including the landing and rails, Blane said.
Fire inspectors estimate $10,000 in damage.
