PUHI — A three-car accident on Kuhio Highway in Puhi sent at least one man to the hospital Sunday morning. Kaua‘i Police Dispatch reported the accident just after 8 a.m., just south of the Kaua‘i Humane Society near Halfway Bridge.

Kaua‘i Police Dispatch reported the accident just after 8 a.m., just south of the Kaua‘i Humane Society near Halfway Bridge. According to one witness, two cars sustained front-end damage, and a third had damage to the driver’s side door.
One driver sustained a head gash and was treated and transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Responders reported that a second driver who had not initially complained of an injury was later transported to the hospital after experiencing neck pain.
The identities and conditions of the drivers and of any passengers was not known Sunday afternoon.
According to a county spokesperson, the eastbound lane was closed briefly until a vehicle could be towed from the scene. The highway was open to alternating traffic flow until the roadway was cleared sometime after 9 a.m.
Heavy traffic was reported in both directions until at least 9:30 a.m.
