PO‘IPU — Kim Medeiros rose above the cold winds punctuated with blustery showers and an abundance of rainbows to be named All Around Cowgirl with 47 points Sunday at the CJM Country Stables.
Marti Snyder, topping the Breakaway Roping, finishing second in Goat Tying and third in the Dally Team event, was named Reserve All Around Cowgirl with 36 points during the inaugural 2013 Kaua‘i All Girl Rodeo Association event.
Snyder went through the Breakaway Roping with a 10.20 average on two go’s, copped Fast Time honors for the event of 3.87 on one go.
She was followed in the Breakaway by Britni Ludington-Braun (11.09/2), Eliza Vierra (14.45/2), Janine Wilson (15.10/2) and Kristyn Vasconcelles (16.78/2).
Snyder teamed with Trish Lorenzo as heeler to pocket Fast Time honors in the Dally Team event, stopping the clock on an 11.74 go, the team with Snyder as the header, coming in third with its 11.74 time on one go.
Lorenzo teamed with header Rhonda Refamonte, formerly Kaui, to top the Dally Team event with a 27.33 average on two go’s.
Alexis Vasconcelles teamed with Kristyn Vasconcelles to finish in the runner-up spot with a 33.16 average on two go’s ahead of Snyder and Lorenzo.
Taylor Ludington as header, teamed with Kim Medeiros on a 15.59 go for fourth place and teamed with Ho‘olai Ludington on a 16.33 go for fifth place.
Kim Medeiros topped the Goat Tying event on a 22.55 average on two go’s, copping Fast Time honors with a 10.810 go.
She was followed by Snyder in the Goat Tying, stopping the clocks with a 24.94 average on two go’s followed by Cheyanne Tannery (31.94/2), Cora Murayama (39.61/2) and Trish Lorenzo (45.88/2).
Kim Medeiros also topped the Steer Undecorating event with a 5.66 average on two go’s, copping Fast Time honors with a 2.32 go.
She was followed in the event by Cora Murayama (6.67/2), Trish Lorenzo (7.24/2), Rhonda Refamonte (8.13/2) and Tierra Rapozo (14.35/2).
Cheyanne Tannery topped the 1st D of the Barrel Racing event with a 17.681 go followed by Taylor Ludington riding Dusty (18.102), Taylor Ludington riding Tunda (18.351), Kim Medeiros (18.500) and Wendy Tannery (18.519), who suffered a fall in the inclement weather following the successful go.
Tami Yamamoto topped the 2nd D of Barrel Racing with a 19.502 go followed by Robin Medeiros (19.725), Tara Fernandez (19.767), Kristyn Vasconcelles (19.823) and Brianne Matsuyama (20.039).
Nancy McMahon topped the 3rd D of Barrel Racing on a 20.984 go followed by Debbie Bail riding Lena (21.286), Sierra Medeiros (21.646), Debbie Bail riding Ali‘i (22.764) and Christie Castillo (23.586).
Cheyanne Tannery, a student at Kaua‘i High School, continued to top the riding events, capturing top honors in the 1st D of the Pole Bending event with a 21.834 go.
She was followed in the 1st D by Tierra Rapozo (23.345), Tara Fernandez (23.501), Kim Medeiros (23.590) and Brianne Matsuyama (23.719).
Tami Yamamoto topped the 2nd D of Pole Bending with a 24.904 ride followed by Janine Wilson (24.992) and Kristyn Vasconcelles (25.776).
Debbie Bail topped the 3rd D of Pole Bending on a 26.473 go followed by Shan Lara (26.94), Eliza Vierra (27.712), Christie Castillo (28.592) and Nancy McMahon (28.902).
The next Kaua‘i All Girl Rodeo Association event will be held on, appropriately enough, March 3, which is celebrated as Girls Day in Hawai‘i.
Action starts with the Grand Entry at 10 a.m. at the CJM Country Stables in Po‘ipu.
There is no admission fee and a lunchwagon will be present.
