The public is invited to help Rotarians throughout the state in its goal to collect of 400,000 pounds of rice for the food banks on all islands, said Richard Olsen, the Rotary Assistant Governor for Kaua‘i.
Hawai‘i Rotary District 5000 has taken on this project, and with approximately 1,700 Rotarians in Hawai‘i, each Rotarian will need to obtain approximately a dozen 20-pound bags of rice.
“This is a very attainable goal as we will be asking the public to help us,” Olsen said in an email. “We will be setting up tables at the entrance to Foodland and other stores throughout the state to ask the public for help.”
The Rotary Club of Kaua‘i will be soliciting contributions of rice, or money, at the Times Supermarket this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
During the same period, the Rotary Club of Kapa‘a will be soliciting at the Foodland store in Waipouli which will be featuring a special rice sale.
The Rotary Club of Kalepa Sunrise will set up a collection site on Feb. 9.
All rice and funds collected will be distributed to local food banks and food distribution centers on Kaua‘i, Olsen said.
“The Rotary Clubs on Kaua‘i are requesting the public to support this worthwhile project,” Olsen said. “Please join the Rotary Clubs in combating hunger on our island.”
