LIHU‘E — Scott Giarman, executive director for the Kaua‘i United Way, collected his staff, including Lynnette Medrano-Stine, KUW Campaign director and community services liaison, and Ron Wiley, KUW Campaign co-chair, to accept a corporate contribution from First Hawaiian Bank Tuesday afternoon.
“First Hawaiian Bank — a true kama‘aina company — has proven itself to be an upstanding corporate citizen for many years with its annual corporate contributions to Kaua‘i United Way over many years,” Giarman said. “This year’s contribution puts them solidly in second place, only behind the outstanding result of Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative.”
Giarman said KIUC ran the largest KUW employee group campaign ever during 2012, and the corporate match of his huge sum proved to be even bigger than First Hawaiian’s excellent effort.
“We are truly grateful that the management and associates of First Hawaiian Bank recognize the wisdom of maintaining robust social services on Kaua‘i to benefit us all,” said Wiley.
The 2012 KUW employee campaign at First Hawaiian Bank continues to improve, Giarman said. Over the course of the last three years, the employees of First Hawaiian have shown a 6 percent average annual increase in KUW contributions.
Currently, the Kaua‘i United Way Annual Campaign is ongoing and is at about 88 percent of its goal, which is set at 5 percent higher than last year’s total.
This reflects the increased need on our island, Giarman said.
