LIHU‘E — County officials credited a passing motorist with keeping a small structure fire from spreading in Lihu‘e Sunday. The fire, at the Aloha Dance Studio in the light industrial park behind Home Depot, still caused an estimated $20,000 in damage.
The call from a motorist, who notified authorities about smoke coming from the building, as well as the quick response by firefighters kept the fire confined to a small waiting area roughly four feet by three feet, officials said.
Smoke damage, however, was extensive in the studio.
Engine 3, Rescue 3, Engine 5, Truck 5, Battalion 3, and police officers responded to the fire, and it was deemed fully extinguished at 10:04 a.m.
No one was injured, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
