LIHU‘E — In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr., the Department of Human Services, Foster Grandparent program, in partnership with Senior Companion Program and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, held a slipper drive on Jan. 22. Volunteers gathered more than 150 pairs of new slippers and sandals to give to ESH participants with developmental disabilities and special needs.
The volunteer group will be delivering the donations to Easter Seals Hawai‘i on Kaua‘i at its monthly meeting on Monday at 10:30 a.m., which is being held at the State Building located at 3060 Eiwa St. in Lihu‘e in the second floor conference room.
Participants from Easter Seals Kaua‘i will be on hand to thank the organization personally.
“The reason why we chose Easter Seals Hawai‘i is they share a common mission with the Foster Grandparent Program. Like us they work with children who have special or exceptional needs,” said Anne Miyamoto, Foster Grandparent Program specialist, in a news release.
