KAPAHI — Ka‘apuni Road in Kapahi remained closed Saturday evening as utility workers repair a damaged pole and address downed power lines resulting from a traffic accident, according to County of Kaua‘i spokeswoman Beth Tokioka.
At approximately 6:48 p.m. Saturday evening, the male driver of a pickup truck apparently veered onto the shoulder of Ka‘apuni Road and struck another truck that was parked in the yard of 5861A Ka‘apuni Road.
The first truck then also struck a utility pole, sheering it in half. The accident caused a power outage in the area.
There were two individuals in the parked truck, and the female passenger was transported to Mahelona Medical Center for treatment. Her condition was unknown at press time.
Ka‘apuni Road will remain closed pending repairs by Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative, the release states. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, according to the release.
