PO‘IPU — The Beach House, located in Po‘ipu, recently completed a $500,000 renovation in order to enhance the restaurant’s classic Hawaiian ambiance.
Lengths were taken to create an upscale modern feel incorporating island features such as bamboo accents, a seascape color palette and rich dark wood elements, designers said recently.
Sara Lambson, an interior designer with Kala Interior Designs worked on the design along with owners Roy Dunn and Mike Hooks.
Inspiration for the project was drawn from the restaurant’s serene oceanfront setting, along with the colors of Kaua‘i.
The ocean-themed color palette for the décor was coordinated with new carpets, dining tables, and chair upholstery.
Along with the new color scheme, the upper level wood railing was lowered several inches and replaced with a recycled glass bar top in seafoam green, opening up the Beach House while enhancing sunset views for diners on the upper level.
The bar layout was redesigned to create more spacious and comfortable seating as well.
Behind the scenes, the renovation provided improvements to the flow of the restaurant, along with a new lighting and sound system.
In addition, the kitchen received a new hotline, an expanded grill, sauté and fry area. Energy efficient equipment was selected to provide a “greener” work environment, as well as to give temperature consistency throughout the line.
Another addition is solid wood entry doors with etched glass, while the lobby features Maui artist Kim McDonald’s new watercolor series, Polynesian Tranquility, along with select originals and giclees.
The Beach House offers award-winning Pacific Rim cuisine in a oceanfront setting in sunny Po‘ipu, and was recently honored with a Hale Aina Gold Award for Best Kaua‘i Restaurant for the 13th year in a row. For information or reservations, visit www.the-beach-house.com or call 742-1424.
