Programs such as the YWPA are made possible through the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i, which recently hosted its 20th Annual Eat Dessert First fundraising event at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort.
Melinda Uohara, the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation chair, said a major portion of the funds raised at Eat Dessert First go toward scholarships for deserving high school seniors and also to a woman re-entering the work force at the Kaua‘i Community College.
This year’s event was attended by more than 600 people who enjoyed the variety of desserts created by local chefs, the dessert offerings being supplemented with fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese platters, healthy protein shakes and freshly-brewed Kaua‘i Coffee.
More than 200 items were bid on and won in the silent auction with a lucky recipient going home with the grand prize valued at $1,800 and included a night stay contributed by the Sheraton Kaua‘i Resort, a round of golf from Po‘ipu Bay Golf and a certificate from the Yum Cha Restaurant.
Entertainment was provided by the Kaua‘i Chorale, celebrating its 50th anniversary, and the Hawaiian contemporary music offered by Cruz Control, comprised of Kepa Kruse, Frank Cruz Jr. and Kaniho Giminiz.
