Editor’s note: Old-timers might still remember the introduction from The Shadow radio program: “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” Jerome Freitas, a retired state Department of Transportation worker who is now better known as Da Shadow, since 2004 has been meeting with government representatives about problems he has discovered or that have been reported to him, and reporting the county’s responses.
Transportation Department
Da Shadow: (Nov. 1) Will the county continue to provide free bus fares for county employees? Under the current policy, can county employees ride the bus free any day or only on work days?
County: (Nov. 16) Other options are being researched that upon implementation should continue encouraging the use of the bus, yet not have the bus fares “free.” Under the current policy, county employees showing a valid employee I.D. are able to board any day and any time without paying a fare.
Transportation Department
Da Shadow: (Nov. 1) What do we do with old buses that are taken out of service?
County: (Nov. 16) They are included in the county’s annual asset disposal auction, which is handled by the Department of Finance’s Purchasing Division.
Transportation Department
Da Shadow: (Nov. 1) Does the current agreement allow the KCC students to ride the bus with their KCC/County pass on any day, or only on school days?
County: (Nov. 16) There is no current agreement although we are working toward it. The agreement being considered would allow KCC students showing a valid KCC student I.D. to board any day and any time without paying a fare.
