LIHU‘E — Kapa‘a’s Bryden Salvador carded an even par 72 to lead the Warrior boys to its second straight team win in windy conditions at Kaua‘i Lagoons Golf Club Saturday.
Salvador blazed through the front nine, crossing with a one-under par 35 enroute to finishing with a 72 (35-37) to lead the Kapa‘a boys to a 321 (72-76-85-88) team score, a 27-stroke advantage over Kaua‘i High School who finished with a 348 (82-85-88-93) and for the second straight week, were without the services of Pono Tokioka and Braeden Robley.
But Tokioka and Robley were not the only absent Red Raiders as Taylor Viquelia also missed her second straight match, leaving Daezsa Tomas, crossing with a one-under par 35, to lead the Red Raider girls team win with a 75(35-40) round.
Joining her, freshman Hi‘ilani Alana carded an 89 (41-48) and Jenae Park finished with a 98 (49-49) to clinch the team round with a 262 (75-89-98) over Waimea High School who enjoyed the return of Kawena Warren (47-48-97) for a solid No. 2 contribution toward the Waimea team total of 291 (93-95-103).
Mariah Paiste set the pace for Waimea with a 93 (46-47), just two strokes ahead of Warren, and Samantha Nichols (51-52-103) rounded out the Menehune scoring.
Randi Oxentine (52-51-103) was the Red Raider individualist for the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation Match No. 4.
Na‘ea Oda was the individualist for the Kapa‘a High School girls, carding a 77 (39-38) and Kari Whitworth was the individualist for the Island School girls, finishing with a 106 (51-55).
Following Salvador in the Kapa‘a boys’ scoring, Kenji Miyata rebounded to a strong 76 (37-39), four strokes back of the Warrior leader. Kawika Wellington finished a solid No. 3 for Kapa‘a with an 85(41-44) and Kainalu Gandia rounded out the team scoring at 88(41-47).
Other Warrior individualists on the course included Landen Ishida (41-47-88), Anthony Aiwohi (52-63-115) and Justin Donios (60-60-120).
Trevor Kua, crossing in sixth place among the boys’ field, rebounded on the back nine to finish second overall for his 82 (44-48) which led the Kaua‘i boys’ team scoring. Kua was followed by Kai Adachi (42-43-85), three strokes off the Kaua‘i pace, Jamie Amimoto (47-41-88) and Vance Tokita (46-47-93).
Other Red Raider individualists included Keith Jose (47-48-95), Ian Castro (55-59-114), Jeremy Felizardo (48-51-99) and Jacob Viquelia (44-46-90).
Island School rounded out the boys’ team scoring with a 408 (91-95-107-115), led by Jacob Dysinger (45-46-91), Michael Miller (51-44-95), Adam Sclafani (48-59-107) and Josh Miller (55-60-115).
Waimea High School boys’ leaders finished within a stroke of each other, Wesley Carter-Fujinaka (49-47-96) taking a stroke lead over teammate Derek Callejo (47-50-97). Mark Kanahele (51-57-108) rounded out the Waimea boys.
The KIF golfers get a spring break, next taking the field on March 30 at the Puakea Golf Course with the first grouping teeing off at noon.
