LIHU‘E — OZone picked up its first win of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Ward Hayward Memorial Series Thursday, the fourth of six races in the series.
OZone slipped across the 3.4-mile course in 5- to 10-knot winds out of the Southeast on a 37:32 elapsed sail, correcting to 37:35 PHRF for its first win, more than a minute ahead of Fast Company.
Fast Company, already pocketing two earlier first finishes in the series, crossed the line at 38:52 elapsed, correcting to 38:56 PHRF for the runner-up spot.
Papa‘au, opening the Hayward series with a win, filled in the No. 3 spot on a 43:35 elapsed sail, correcting to 41:43 PHRF.
A dozen boats turned out, but the winds did not cooperate, the field being whittled down as three boats, Coyote, Mapuana and Kalewa, posted “Did Not Finish” status in the light winds.
