LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Knockout Championship No. 6 Unconquered is coming to the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall on Saturday.
The fight card is still being finalized, but it will feature mostly Kaua‘i-based amateur fighters.
“These fights differ from every other fight, not only on Kaua‘i, but in the state,” said John Rivera, owner of Torch Light Productions. “The concept of our fights started from giving the first-time, second-time, third-time fighter a venue to fight in and to gain ring experience and build up their record.”
Both Rivera and Kipi Akana, owner of Knockout Hawai‘i, pride themselves on using fighters who are trying to get their amateur start in mixed martial arts.
“These are amateurs, but we want to put them on the best stage possible and show them in the best light possible.” Rivera said.
Although it is catered toward the amateur fighter, Rivera and Akana want to provide a first-class experience for both the fighters and the spectators. From the hexagon cage that will be set up on the stage of the Convention Hall, to the 14-foot screens and the beer garden.
“We try to make the show big for these up and coming guys,” Akana said. “We want them to feel like they are in a big show.”
Tickets are available for presale for $35 at Rambla Clothing Co. in Waimea, Kujo’s in Kalaheo, Kama‘aina Surf and Sport in Lihu‘e, Tamba Surf Co. in Kapa‘a and Village Variety in Hanalei. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $45.
The official weigh-ins will take place at JJ’s Broiler in Lihu‘e on Friday with the fights starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday (doors open at 4 p.m.).
