What attracted me to Shivalik, other than its authentic, delicious Indian Cuisine, was its beer. When I met with Manager Debasis Panda, he captured my interest when he spoke of the authentic Indian beer housed at Shivalik.
The Taj Mahal is a premium lager from Bengal, India. It comes in two sizes: Large for $7.95, and small for $5.95. It has a slight citrus flavor and its taste is more on the lighter side. If you’re a beer connoisseur, this is one beer that you must try.
The two other Indian beers at Shivalik are the Maharaja and the Flying Horse Royal Lager. The Maharaja is $5.95. It is a well-balance international style of pilsner (pale lager).
The Flying Horse Royal Lager, at $7.95 for a 22 ounce, is from Bangalore, India. When poured, it displays a brighter golden color than the Taj Mahal. It is well carbonated and is slightly sweet when warm, but when cold it is crisp and slightly bitter.
If you aren’t in the mood for beer, Shivalik offers an array of wine. White, red and sparkling wine from California, Spain, Italy, Sonoma, Calif., and Washington runs at $5 to $8 per glass and $18 to $50 per bottle.
Have your choice of Bolla Pinot Grigio, Dry Creek Fume Blanc, Beringer Chardonnay, Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir, 14 Hands Merlot or Ferrari-Carano Cabernet Sauvignon.
For you sparkling wine fanatics, you have a choice of Beringer Moscato, Rosa Regale Brachetto and Mumms Brut Prestige.
