LIHU‘E — Kaulupono swept its two games, and Team Lihu‘e girls split its pair of games to close the county’s Division 2 girls season Saturday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
In a make-up game, Westside Basketball got eight points from Zech Ponting and six marks from Carter Koetje to nail a 32-15 win over Team Lihu‘e (boys) Red who got six points from A.J. Apalla and five points from Grant Urmatam.
The boys game was the final game for the county’s Division 3, or boys in the seventh and eighth grades, season.
The girls Division 2 is made up of players primarily in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.
Both divisions are hosted by the County of Kaua‘i, Department of Parks and Recreation with support from the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association which provides support for game officials and scorekeeping duties.
Kiarra Palacio and Apryl Grande each scored six points to lead Kaulupono 2 to a 30-22 edge over the Kaua‘i Ballers who got 10 points from Paea Tafea and eight marks from Lose Masaniai, one of the Kaua‘i Ballers taking in the Kaua‘i Community College Spring Festival.
Taegan Keep finished with 38 points and Monique Lorenzo added 10 points to lead Kaulupono 1 to a 57-42 win over Hanakila, a team comprised of players primarily from the Hanalei and Kilauea areas.
Jaliyah Casem topped the Hanakila scoring with 16 points followed by Joy Milbrand adding a dozen points and Keani Tolenoa finishing with eight points.
Tiana Manera led the Team Lihu‘e (girls) Red 26-8 victory over the Seacats with 15 points. Koleka Chow and Marissa Layosa contributed six and four points, respectively.
Julia Massaro and Risa Whetsel topped the Seacats’ scoring with four points apiece.
Lila Hearn netted nine points and Kalia Shimabukuro added eight points to lead the Kamikaze to a 31-22 win over Team Lihu‘e (girls) Black who got eight points from Sierra Neves and six points from Kealani Neves.
