The Kaua‘i duo of Kari Noe and Danika Thompson handed Kapa‘a’s Taylor Anama and Kara Higa a 6-4, 6-1 defeat on the girls first doubles court. On the girls third doubles field, the Kaua‘i duo of Maricar Bersamira and Tori Pagador downed the Warrior pair of Cassady Yatsko and Angelika Queston in a match which elicited cheering from fans from across the facility. Bersamira and Pagador won, 7-6 (9-7) and 6-3.
Kapa‘a boys swept the men’s courts, Kalani Murakami charged out for a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kaua‘i’s William Jordan Balbin on the boys first singles court, with the Warrior getting strong fan support in his win.
Kai Harrison of Kapa‘a went on to defeat Reggie Mones of Kaua‘i 6-0, 6-2 on the second singles court.
The pair of Matt Steinorht and Kailer Scopacasa took three sets to get past Kaua‘i’s Clinton Sibolboro and Randy Iloreta, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.
Don Maddock of Kapa‘a teamed with Johnatan Obiano to defeat Richard Garcia and Thomas Simpkins 6-4, 6-2 on the boys third doubles court.
Over at the Waimea High School courts, Island School also split its series, 4-1 in the girls and 0-4 for the boys, of a make up match from March 9 when the matches were rained out at Kaua‘i Community College.
After April Oo of Island School claimed the girls first singles by default over Waimea’s Brittany Barreira, Katy Davidson, who prevailed over the Warriors last week, continued her winning ways, taking Menehune Emily Evans 6-4, 7-5 on the girls second singles court.
Waimea’s pair of Shalyn Jim and Kim Hoeckmann-Percival took the girls first doubles by default over Oo and Alex Obert while on the girls second doubles court, Voyager Joy Claypoole teamed with Madison Moore to defeat Menehune Kayla Ishida and Kaylah Gruspe 7-6 (7-3), 6-0.
Island School’s Briana Greip teamed with Whitney Summerhays to defeat Waimea’s Janelle Papa and Diane Gawaran, 6-2, 6-0.
On the boys’ courts, the boys’ third doubles defaulted for both teams. On the boys first singles, Waimea’s Marcus Pereira defeated Davis Huffman, 6-2, default while on the boys second singles, Menehune Kaleo Huata defeated Manix Wolman, 4-3, default.
Waimea’s Patrick Cowell teamed with Gilson Guillermo defeated Keoni Boemer and Sam Goldberg, 6-2, default on the boys first doubles, while on the Boys second doubles, Riley Saiki and Bryson Cayaban defeated Quentin Allen and Zeb Wichert by default.
Both matches were played at sites different from the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation schedule because of uncontrollable circumstances.
The Kaua‘i High School match was re-located to Po‘ipu because the Kaua‘i Lagoons tennis courts were not available. The Island School match was moved to Waimea High School because the Hanapepe tennis courts have been shut down due to its light poles being infested by termites and becoming a safety hazard.
Saturday’s will mark the final regular season match, when Waimea hosts Kapa‘a at the Waimea High School courts starting at 10 a.m. and Kaua‘i travels to the Kaua‘i Community College courts to take on Island School starting at noon.
The state qualifying matches will take place on April 18 and 19 at the Kiahuna Swim and Tennis Club starting at 8 a.m.
