LIHU‘E — County building applications are set to go paperless this week.
Effective Wednesday, building applications submitted electronically will receive priority over paper-based applications.
“We have spent the last six months testing the electronic plan (ePlan) review system and have seen the benefits firsthand particularly with the amount of time and money it saves applicants and the county,” said Building Division Chief Doug Haigh.
The new system has cut the processing time in half and saves the parties involved hundreds of dollars in terms of paper usage and the cost of fuel to drive to and from Lihu‘e, noted Haigh.
The ePlan also enables customers to check the status of their projects 24 hours a day and respond to feedback from government agencies involved in the permitting process. The new system will help reduce harmful automobile emissions, traffic congestion, and save trees by cutting back on paper.
