Kudos to Melissa McFerrin, Larry Feinstein, Jerry Ornellas and all the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau people on getting the Garden Fair through the inclement weather Saturday!
John McClure had mixed blessings about the weather, the good side being people taking shelter from the rain had an opportunity to try his new Moloa‘a Bay Cocoa chocolate beverage (it’s good, trust me). John said he also has a tea, which Dennis Esaki turned him on to. He’s trying to get some plants so he can create the tea, which is highly regarded in Japan for its medicinal properties.
Ed Kawamura said he used his Army training to anchor everything against the weather. Neill Sams was kept busy securing Orchid Alley’s tent from wind gusts, and Sandi Kato-Klutke called it an early day after selling out and getting wet from the rain.
On the farmers market side, Chris Kauwe of Honi Honi Honey had his apprentice beekeeper Andrew Saia helping explain the honeybees to customers.
“It’s the next generation,” Kauwe said. “They need to learn.”
