Happy Hanamatsuri!
Today is the date most Buddhists celebrate the birth of the Buddha, and kudos to the Kaua‘i Buddhist Council for hosting the annual Hanamatsuri services Sunday at the Lihu‘e Hongwanji Mission.
Mahalo to Gerald Hirata (he’s at some of the KIF volleyball games, too) for the help with Hanamatsuri.
Unfortunately, a brush fire waylaid plans to check out Terry Maguire’s honors program kids’ Mini Relay for Life at the Kapa‘a Middle School. Great job, kids! We’ll probably see them at the big Relay for Life on Apr. 27 along with Richelle Rodriguez and her Kaua‘i Community College team who were selling “Malasadas on a Stick” during last week’s Spring Festival. If you’re not going to Relay, you can contribute at www.relayforlife.org, but Katie Burleson and Taryn Dizon would rather see you in person.
Kudos, too, to Kaua‘i United Way Campaign co-chairs Ron Wiley and Doug Sears, director Scott Giarman, and staff Lynnette Medrano-Stine and Lori Almarza on hitting the Campaign goal!
