LIHU‘E — Cyndi Ayonon, the administrative aide in the Office of the Mayor, put her skills to work recently taking the photo of Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. announcing Administrative Professionals Week.
For the past 61 years, the International Association of Administrative Professionals has been asking businesses around the world to show gratitude for the people “who get the job done in their office,” states a release from the IAAP, Kukui Chapter.
Administrative Professionals Week has been designated from April 21 through 27 with April 24 set aside as Administrative Professionals Day.
This observance is one of the largest workplace celebrations outside of employee birthdays and major holidays.
During the course of the year, office professionals anticipate needs, track details, deliver results and ensure that business gets done. When resources are stretched, office professionals find solutions. When roadblocks appear, office professionals build workarounds and ensure projects end on time, and under budget.
Outside of Kaua‘i, the IAAP Kukui Chapter, which includes members from Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, Maui, the Big Island and Canada, will be celebrating Administrative Professionals Week with a day of cultural and educational experiences at the Ka‘upulehu Interpretive Center on the Big island.
Ku‘ulei Keakealani is the curator of the Ka‘upulehu Interpretive Center and will share this cultural preserve, which includes petroglyph panels, remnant house sites and burial sites with members of the IAAP Kukui Chapter.
Healani Waia‘u, IAAP Hawai‘i Division vice president, will present a leadership development, teambuilding and networking seminar.
Waia‘u has been an IAAP member since 1994 and has held many officer positions, including Hawai‘i Division president. She is the administrative assistant for the curriculum and assessment coordinator for the Kamehameha Schools, Hilo campus.
IAAP is headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., and is the world’s leading association for administrative professionals with about 500 chapters and approximately 20,000 members worldwide. IAAP sponsors Administrative Professionals Week, usually held on the last full week in April, and Administrative Professionals Day, which falls on Wednesday of Administrative Professionals Week.
