When it comes to tropical cocktails, Grove Cafe in Waimea offers a fine array of tasty, sweet and refreshing signature drinks.
On my last visit to Grove Cafe, Kaua‘i Times featured the Coconut Cloud, a cocktail filled with coconut, pineapple and rum. This time around, bartender Earl Newcomb suggested we feature the Green Flash. All of Grove Cafe’s “Signature Tropicals” are priced at $8.
The Green Flash consists of Midori liqueur, vodka, pineapple, citrus and a splash of coconut. It’s a great cocktail for any time of the day. It goes well with any of the pupus on the menu. I would recommend the Green Flash with the Chinatown Dim Sum Plate, $10.95, and the Plantation Sugar Cane Skewered Shrimp, $14.25.
Newcomb also presented The Grove Mai Tai, which is made with pineapple, guava and passion fruit juice, and light and dark rum.
Grove Cafe also added several beers from Maui Brewing Co. to their tap, including the Big Swell, a pale ale; the Bikini Blond, filtered Munich Helles lager that is brewed with floral hops and Pilsner and Munich malts; the Coconut Porter, a robust beer brewed with six varieties of malted barley, hops and hand-toasted coconut; and the Mana Wheat, an unfiltered and freshly handcrafted American-style wheat ale infused with Maui Gold Pineapple.
“All the beers on tap are $5.25 daily and $4 during happy-hour,” Newcomb said. “Happy-hour is every day from 4 to 7 p.m. Also, the sizes of the glass come in two sizes — 12 ounces and 16 ounces The prices, however, are still the same.”
