Happy retirement to Sandi Kato-Klutke who went fishing Friday night at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa.
“Watch out, she’s got a stick in her hand,” one of the 200-plus guests remarked after Doug Okada, Patrick Kozuma and Gary Ettinger of the Aston offices in Honolulu presented the retiring manager of the Aston Islander on the Beach with lei made of monofilament line, swivels and sinkers, a fishing hat and a fishing pole.
Randall Francisco of the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce had his entire staff on hand to celebrate, and Rebecca Smith said this was one occasion where she was a guest, instead of working. Will she be working Thursday when the Kaua‘i Museum hosts its Business After Hours?
Sandi’s son Max said he already made several trips to clear mom’s lei, and after the hat prevented more lei, decided he would wear the hat.
Sandi’s daughter Maile was the social media secretary, using people’s cell phones to get photos of the retiring manager, and Stephanie Reid, the Charity Walk chairwoman, was there to congratulate Sandi and still able to make the Countdown to the Charity Walk Saturday at Kukui Grove.
