LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i High School Red Raider football program treated its fans to the annual spring Red-and-White game under the lights Saturday.
Similar to the Kapa‘a green-and-white game Thursday, this time the Red team assumed the offense and the White took the defensive roles.
Squads moved the ball through its normal paces, relinquishing the field to the next set of players if it could not move the ball for a first down. The defensive forces switched at the same time.
Under the helm of coach Tommy John Cox and a solid coaching staff, both teams played under the scrutiny of football officials, who took advantage of the scrimmage to get its newer members trained for game experience.
The sideline crew included student managers Ashley Galiza, Alia Mindoro and Ashia Mindoro, and eighth-graders, who were not allowed on the playing field, but got to rub shoulders with their high school mentors.
Kaua‘i High School football boosters also provided prizes for its several hundred fans, the premiums being given away through drawings held during the game.
Kaua‘i High School athletic director Ross Shimabukuro is accepting applications for positions in the football program. The deadline is May 24.
