The 33rd Kapaa Rotary Club Taste of Hawaii is Sunday, and the online registration is still open until Sunday for the event. Guests can park at Vidinha Stadium and be shuttled to Smith’s Tropical Paradise for the unique fundraiser where more than 25 chefs from around the state get to showcase their culinary magic.

Kudos to retired Gen. Mary Kay Hertog, the Kauai Veterans Council and the many community partners for hosting another great Memorial Day Observance. Soon-to-retire Capt. Brett Stevenson already had his replacement in tow, and USCG Michael McHugh has his Change of Command the day after Interim Police Chief Elliot Ke takes over from soon-to-retire Police Chief Todd Raybuck (television news said that’s coming up on June 12, the same day the KPD Administrative offices will have curtailed hours).
Kudos to Scouting America, Aloha Council (Vianne Tabata is the Kauai executive) on turning out a large number of Scouts, and kudos to Marissa Dennis and the Girl Scouts of Hawaii for doing the fancy lei that covered one wall of the cemetery’s flagpole pedestal.
Kudos to Charlene Dorsey (remember the Outstanding Female Older American?) and Miss Kauai Veteran Kaye Alvarez who was doing her final mission before a new Miss Kauai Veteran is installed before Veterans Day.
OK, so we don’t get a break because the Little Babes Club presents a Fun Day on Saturday at the Kukui Grove Center with activities, vendors and community resources, and Mary Lardizabal’s Kapaa Ukulele Band providing lunchtime music.
