LIHUE — The Philanthropic Educational Organization, or P.E.O., Chapter L, Hawaii, on Friday announced five Kauai high school seniors who are recipients of three different P.E.O. scholarships for the 2025-26 academic school year.
Emily Racpan of Kekaha, an Island School graduate, and Margarita Lomongo of Eleele, a Waimea High School graduate, are recipients of the Lois R. and Lawrence H. Somers P.E.O. Scholarship that was established in 2023 to benefit a West Kauai woman pursuing her post-secondary or post-graduate level degree at an accredited college or university.
Racpan will attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a major in Biology and Pre-Med.
Lomongo will be attending Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona, majoring in Dietetics.
Two Kauai High School seniors — Angela Tolosa of Lihue and Mia Marty of Kalaheo — competed with thousands of high school senior girls across the U.S. and Canada to earn $2,500 P.E.O., STAR Scholarships for their excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academic and potential for success.
Tolosa, nominated by Chapter L, Hawaii, will attend Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, majoring in Nursing.
Marty, nominated by Chapter C, Oahu, will attend Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., majoring in Aerospace Engineering.
Chapter C, Oahu collaborated with Chapter L, Lihue to select Yekaterina Mozorova of Lihue, a Kauai High School graduate, as a recipient of the P.E.O. Chapter C, Hawaii Scholarship. Mozorova will be attending Northeastern University in Oakland, Calif., majoring in Business Administration and Design.
Since organizing on Aug. 21, 2021, Chapter L, Hawaii has distributed nearly $27,000 in scholarships to 14 Kauai women.
P.E.O. is a nonprofit organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College; and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
