Rose Dela Cruz Carvalho
Rose Dela Cruz Carvalho passed away on April 16, 2025, at the age of 96. She was born in Kealia, Kauai, on June 15, 1928. She worked as a loving and compassionate nurse at Wilcox Memorial Hospital for 42 years, where she was loved and respected by the hospital staff and patients.
She was preceded in passing by her beloved husband of 36 years, Lawrence Souza Carvalho, son Eric John Carvalho, and parents Constancio and Antonina Dela Cruz.
Rose is survived by her children Clayton (Doreen) Carvalho, Laurine (Ray) Pagaduan, Mark (Grace) Carvalho, Clyde (Jodi) Carvalho, grandchildren Liana Rose and Jaron Ray Pagaduan, Kaley Erica Carvalho, Lawrence Kealii and Robyn Piilani Carvalho, brother Mark (Patty) Dela Cruz and their children Kaitlyn, Charlie, and Ezra Dela Cruz, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 8 to 9:30 a.m., a funeral Mass at 10 a.m., and burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Lynn T. Seto
Lynn T. Seto, 79, of Waimea, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 4, 2025. He was a mechanic and owner of Seto’s Repair Service in Waimea.
He was preceded in the passing by his parents Tadao and Haruko Seto.
Lynn is survived by his wife Jane Seto, daughters Tana (Grant) Okamura, Jodi (Caleb) Silva, siblings Eddie (Lorraine) Seto, Gary Seto, Mae Kinoshita, grandchildren Jaelyn (Trevor) and Tanner Okamura, Ashley (Dylan) Hookano, Caleb Silva Jr. and great-grandchildren Ariana, Ashlyn and Tyson.
His celebration of life will be held at Garden Island Mortuary on Saturday, May 24, 2025, with visitation at 11 a.m. and service 12 p.m.

Darren T. Sanekane
Darren T. Sanekane passed away at his home on March 29, 2025, at the age of 63. He was born on Feb. 11, 1962, on Kauai. He was a mechanic/service writer at PS&D Tires.
He was preceded in death by father Takeru Sanekane and brother Ron Sanekane.
He is survived by wife Lori Souza-Sanekane of Kalaheo, stepsons Albert Kuriki of Kalaheo, Bryan (Keala) Kuriki of Kalaheo, mother Hanayu Maki Sanekane of Lawai, sisters Verna (Michael) Shoffstall of Kalaheo, Nan Sanekane of Lawai, nieces Nicole (Jayso) Punzalan, Rebekah Shoffstall, Danielle Shoffstall, Emily Shoffstall, nephews John Shoffstall, Caleb Shoffstall, Joshua Shoffstall, numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Eleele Baptist Church. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., followed by Mass. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Laurinda Leiaulani ‘Gma Lei’ Werner Cano
Laurinda Leiaulani “Gma Lei” Werner Cano, passed away at KVMH on April 11, 2025. She was born on June 15, 1943, in Nanakuli, Oahu. She was a retired custodian at Waimea Canyon School.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Palani Cano Jr., parents Mary Mahuka-Werner and Edward Brown, grandson Dwayne Rita, siblings Calvin “Nunu” Werner, Ewalani Combs, James Kimo Werner and Barney Boy Werner.
Gma Lei is survived by her six children Francine “Mz Fran” Oligo, Frank “Bully” (Judy) Cano, Franchot “Hawaiian” (Pamai) Cano, Francisco “Mauna” (Pomai) Cano, Francella “Napua” (Lloyd) Rita, Francford Kinonui “Bradda” (Jamie) Cano, 14 grandchildren Kaliko (Jessa) Oligo, Noelani (Riley) Refamonte, Thomas (Kayla) Clementino, Jade Cano, Savannah Cano, Amanda Rita, Bradley (Brennan) Cano, Samuel (Bri) Cano, Quinlan Cano, Xavier Cano, Saige Cano, Kinohi Cano, Keahi Cano, seven great-grandchildren Hunter Furtado-Oligo, StarrLee Furtado-Oligo, Kaleah Oligo, Hadley Oligo, Evelyn Clementino, Rio Keao Cano, Kaius Kaimana Cano, siblings Leonae Keala Rodrigues, Charles Papoko Mahuka and John Mahuka.

Ronald ‘Braddah’ Beralas
Ronald “Braddah” Beralas, 74, of Lihue, Hawaii, passed away on May 6, 2025. Born on Oct. 5, 1950, in Hawaii. Ronald served in the U.S. Army and obtained the rank of Sargeant and most recently worked as the Courtesy Bus Driver for Avis/Budget rent-a-car.
He was preceded in death by his parents Al and Juliana Beralas, brothers Alan Beralas, Clayton Beralas and nephew Gavin Degracia.
Ronald is survived by sisters Corrine Deb (Frenchie) Degracia, Ginger (Hank) Soboleski, Yolanda (Dennis) Yacavone, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 14, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with services to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at Kauai Memorial Gardens on June 16, 2025.

Thomas Hugo Jordan
Thomas Hugo Jordan, 65, of Kauai, died on May 7, 2025, oceanfront in Poipu, as per his wishes. He was born on July 3, 1959, to Hugo Otto Jordan and Gertrude Hildegard Klassen in Germany.
He attended university at LMU in Munich where he studied economics and geography and belonged to the fraternity Corpus Hubertia. He completed his mandatory German military service at the NATO Headquarters in Belgium.
His passion for travel led him to a career with Club Med, where he met the love of his life in 1989 in Morocco. Together, they continued to travel and work with Club Med before marrying on Oahu in 1993 and eventually settling on Maui to start their family.
In 1994, he began what would become a 30-year career with Marriott. Known for his dedication and leadership, he worked across various departments before serving as the General Manager at several esteemed properties, including the Manor Club in Williamsburg, Virginia and the St. Kitts Beach Club in the West Indies. He concluded his career as the General Manager at Kauai Lagoons, Kalanipu‘u, retiring in 2024.
A true cosmopolitan, Thomas lived and worked in 14 countries. He was a passionate adventurer and an all-around sportsman, but above all, he was a devoted family man of great integrity.
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife Anne-Marie Jordan, their three children Alexandra Marie, Kai Thomas, and Max Coleman Jordan- their multicultural partners, and his first grandchild Isla Calypso. He is also survived by his loving sister Christine, his nieces and nephews and their children.

Setsuo Ushio
Setsuo Ushio, of Lihue, passed away on his 91st birthday on April 29, 2025. He was born in Pahoa, Hawaii, on April 29, 1934. He retired as a school administrator from the Hawaii Department of Education and was an Army veteran discharged at the rank of Captain.
He was preceded in passing by his parents Hikoichi and Yoshiko Ushio, sisters Kay Yamamoto and Chiyoko Kami, and brother Masahiko Ushio.
Setsuo is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Edith Ushio, daughter Shelly (William Lew Tan) Ushio of Los Angeles, son Elton (Dawn) Ushio of Lihue, grandchildren Meredith and Douglas Lew Tan, Gavin, Keegan, and Evan Ushio, and siblings Yoshiichi Ushio and Kikuko Sato.
Private services will be held by the immediate family. The family requests no koden or flowers. Donations may be made in his name to Lihue Hongwanji Mission or Wilcox Medical Center.

David Maki
A gentle soul, David Maki of Kekaha, Kaua‘i, went over the rainbow on April 16, 2025. He lived a fulfilling life. 81 years on Earth, he was a beloved grandson, son, brother, uncle. David was a strong swimmer, surfer, lifeguard, veteran, fireman, world traveler, paddler, beekeeper, nurturer of nature, animal lover and rescuer, a loyal friend and so much more.
David is truly missed but will never be forgotten. His memories live on when we see the glistening waves rolling in, the soothing Waimea river flowing, the healthy trees that he planted and nourished with “Mokihana’s Magic Manure”, the animals that he loved and found peace with.

Dennis W. Korpi
Dennis W. Korpi, age 76, of Kalaheo, passed away on April 14, 2025. He was born in Hancock, Michigan, and raised in Chassell, Michigan by his parents Frederick and Lydia Korpi, and graduated from high school in 1967. He then served in the U.S. Army as a Generals Aide from 1967-71.
On Oct. 7, 1972, he married the love of his life, the former Vicki Randell, parents Robert and Mary Ann Randell of Dollar Bay, Michigan. Together they shared 53 years of travel, adventure, and laughter.
Dennis was a lifetime member of Colorado Springs Elks, an auxiliary member of Chassell, Michigan VFW, and most importantly a Freemason with the California Acacia Lodge #243 since 1992.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Vicki of Kalaheo, brother Larry (Tonja) Korpi of Canton, Ohio, three nephews, two great-nephews, and four great-nieces.
A celebration of life will be May 26, 2025, Salt Pond Beach main pavilion. Friends may visit with the family starting at 10 a.m. and ceremony at 11 a.m.

Beatrice Joan Bonilla, of Omao, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the age of 93. She was born on May 31, 1931, in Kekaha.
She was preceded in death by husband Frank Bonilla, parents Gabril and Gloria (Soto) Ruiz, brothers Gabriel Ruiz Jr., Daniel L. Ruiz, and Michael Ruiz.
She is survived by sons Jim (Loretta) Bonilla of Caldwell, Idaho, Ricky Bonilla of Miami, Florida, Ken Bonilla of Lihue, Norman Bonilla of Eleele, daughters Dina Bonilla of Lawai, Penny (Steve) Lopez of Redwood City , California, grandchildren Kimo Bonilla, Brendy (Tim) Bonilla-Schuler, Paul (Katie) Lopez, Zachary Bonilla, great-grandchildren Phillp Bonilla, Haleigna Schuler, Luke Lopez, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Garden Island Mortuary. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Ernesto Cobre Saking passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at his residence at the age of 73. He was born on March 15, 1952, in the Philippines. He worked at the McDonald’s restaurant in Lihue.
He was preceded in death by parents Molato and Dumanay (Cobre) Saking and brother-in-law Osmenio Reyes.
He is survived by wife Elsie Saking, son Joey (Olive Almazan) Saking, daughters Lea (Glenn) Compos, Ada (Jacob) Faustino, Dayana (Jerry) Onogen, Eshil (Jacel) Pena, grandchildren Jayden Faustino, Asia Compos, Kianne Onogen, Daphne Onongen, Jayda Faustino, Javan Saking, Dion Onongen, Jodien Faustino, Jechrel Saking, brothers Eliseo ( Martina ) Saking, Tito (Francing) Saking, Lucas (Noemi) Saking, sister Ancheta Reyes, numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Lynne MacDonald
Lynne MacDonald, of Koloa, Hawaii, passed away surrounded by loved ones on May 4, 2025.
Lynne was a kind, caring and witty person who always put the needs of her family and friends before her own. She was an incredibly strong woman who faced every challenge and hardship with courage and dignity. Lynne joyfully donated much of her time to Wilcox Hospital Auxiliary and to Island School.
Lynne is predeceased by her husband David Alan MacDonald, daughter Nanci, and brother Frank (Toby) Humiston.
She is survived by sister Jill Dale, brother Mark Humiston, daughters Debby, Cindy, Lauri (Lulu), grandchildren Kevin, Danica, Brennan, Kellan, Julia, and great-grandchildren Kora and Callum.
