LIHUE — Samira Siale, the Kauai executive from the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association, Kauai Chapter, said the big walk is on Saturday at the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields.
Volunteers from the Zonta Club of Kauai (they’re helping the Kauai Committee on the Status of Women host Denim Day on Wednesday) Melissa Kerr, Ronnie Grover and Mary Kay Hertog were on hand at the Kukui Grove Center to distribute Charity Walk shirts for those who already signed up to participate in the 46th annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk 2025.
Beside getting people to participate in a leisurely three-mile loop (participants may run or walk, with the first three finishers earning prizes) through downtown Lihue, the goal of Charity Walk is to raise $700,000.
The simplest and most convenient way people can help the HLTA board and Siale is to register to participate in the Saturday morning walk that brings walkers through the serenity of the Lihue morning, starting and finishing at the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields.
Registrations and contributions can be done online by visiting the Charity Walk website at www.charitywalkhawaii.org/kauai.
Another way of helping the walk is by participating in any of the peripheral events like the Slippah Drop, the Walk Wednesday auction whose last auction is on May Day, which is Thursday.
Da Slippah Drop, sponsored by Gather Federal Credit Union, Alaska/Hawaiian Airlines and Da Tow Truck from the West Side, offers participants an opportunity to earn the grand prize of two round trips anywhere Alaska or Hawaiian airlines flies within Hawaii, and North and Central America. The trip includes a 3-night stay at Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort &Spa.
Slippahs will also be available on walk day, where registration starts at 6 a.m., and the first steps take off at 7 a.m.
Other prizes include a 2-night stay in an ocean view King Room at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay Resort, including daily breakfast buffet for two people, and daily resort fee and parking.
Another price is a 2-night stay at Hilton Garden Inn (the home of the Wailua Bay Creators Fair in Wailua), including a $100 dining certificate for Mamahune’s Tiki Bar.
The Walk Wednesday auction takes place on Wednesday mornings from 6:30 on KQNG FM 93.5 with Ron Wiley who offers a package valued up to $6,000. Bidding starts at $500.
The Bidding for Good online auction is live where every bid helps make a difference in the community. Items available include gift certificates to some of the top Kauai restaurants, hotel stays, rounds of golf at some of the scenic island golf courses, and activities.
Once the walk is pau, walkers can enjoy a breakfast offering from one of the many participating resorts and vendors at Vidinha Stadium. During last year, walkers were treated to a special show by Kumu Hula Leinaala Pavao Jardin and the Merrie Monarch award-winning Halau Ka Lei Mokihana o Leinaala.
Additionally, participants to the annual Poke Festival with Chef Sam Choy in June will help the Charity Walk.
