LIHUE — The County of Kauai Planning Department invites community members to participate in a series of focused public workshops on the East Kauai Community and Circulation Plan. The workshops will take place from May through September and are part of the department’s ongoing public engagement program.
The East Kauai Community and Circulation Plan is a long-range planning initiative that addresses land use, transportation, infrastructure, housing and more. It also emphasizes community priorities such as climate hazard resilience and the protection of cultural and historic resources.
“Please join us for these deep-dive discussions,” said Planning Director Kaaina Hull. “This planning process is about listening and learning together. We encourage all East Kauai residents to be part of the conversation.”
Each workshop will focus on a specific priority topic and will include interactive opportunities for community feedback. Dinner will be provided at each event. For those unable to attend in person, workshop materials will also be made available online.
Here is the upcoming workshop schedule:
• Workshop #1: Climate Hazards — Tuesday, May 13, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Kalukalu Economic Resilience Center at 1624 Kuhio Highway in Kapaa.
• Workshop #2: Natural, Cultural and Historic Resources — Thursday, May 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Anahola Clubhouse at 3900 Kawelo Road in Anahola.
• Workshop #3: Housing and Infrastructure — date, time and location to be determined.
• Workshop #4: Transportation — date, time and location to be determined.
• Workshop #5: Parks, Recreation and Economic Development — date, time and location to be determined.
This workshop series builds upon previous community engagement efforts, including a public open house and survey conducted in summer 2024 and a multi-day design workshop held in October 2024.
