LIHUE — The Kauai High School tennis program split its latest series against Kapaa on Saturday during the final Kauai Interscholastic Federation matches played at the new Kauai High School tennis courts.
The Red Raider girls took their series, four matches to one over the Warrior wahine, and on the boys’ courts, Kapaa took four matches to Kauai’s single win.
The Kapaa Second Doubles team of Jennifer Guerin and Aedyn Umalla prevented a Kauai sweep of the girls matches by downing the Kauai team of Samantha Tominaga and Sharba Holi, 6-4, 6-1.
On the boys courts, Kauai’s team of Aaron Hinazumi and Shousei Kai, playing on the First Doubles court, allowed the Warrior pair of Jason Muramaru and Curren Pope, coming from a Good Friday night of KIF boys volleyball, five sets in the sold Red Raider victory.
Starting Thursday and continuing through Friday, the KIF will host the state qualifying tournament. The girls will play at the Kauai High School courts from 8 a.m. on both days while the boys will play at the Kapaa High School courts from Thursday starting at 8 a.m.
The 2025 Island Insurance Hawaii High School Athletic Association Tennis State Championships will play May 8-10 at the Royal Lahaina Tennis Courts at the Lahaina Civic Center.
