The weaving class taught by Maile Andrade, center, front row, was lucky to get a space adjacent to Sone’s Delicatessen at the Kukui Grove Center coordinated by Malie Nobrega on Saturday, April 19, 2025. The class, which includes members from all the islands, normally meets online but comes together every few months for an in-person meeting.

Congratulations, Hank Soboleski on the wedding of his granddaughter, Nohealani Soboleski, to Taylor Lemke of Kapahi! According to Hank, the wedding that was officiated by a Christian kahu incorporated traditional Hawaiian blessings in the ceremony that took place April 18 at Paul Lemke’s property on Kahuna Road. A reception for family and friends followed at the Hukilau Lanai restaurant in Waipouli. The couple is currently honeymooning in Japan.

Now that Easter has come and gone, Bart Thomas announced a South Pacific movie at the Kauai Veterans Center for April 25. The fundraiser for the Kauai Veterans Center and Museum (it’ll be open for viewing before the screening) will start from 5 p.m. with a South Pacific trivia contest with food and refreshments available for purchase. Guests are welcome to bring their own beach chairs. Additionally, there are expected to be some of the cast members from the 13-year run of the South Pacific dinner show when it used to be run at the Kauai Beach Resort (now the Outrigger Kauai Beach Resort). Admission is a $10 donation to the Friends of the Kauai Veterans Center.
The Kauai Veterans Center and Museum, in partnership with The Sons and Daughters of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, The West Kauai Club 100, and other community sponsors, will be hosting a free screening of “Shikata Ga Nai,” a feature-length independent movie that is a story of the 442nd RCT of World War II from a perspective never been depicted before.
The screening is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on May 10, and the Kauai Veterans Center needs a head count. Call the Veterans Center at 808-246-1135, or email kauaiveteranscenter@gmail.com if you plan on attending.
