LIHUE – The Kauai Police Department is excited to announce the return of its Junior Police Academy, which will be held from June 23-27. This marks the first time the program has been offered since 2019.
The Junior Police Academy is an immersive five-day summer program designed for high school students in grades 9 through 12, providing them with a hands-on introduction to the world of public safety. The program blends interactive classroom sessions with practical activities, giving participants a comprehensive understanding of police operations. Students will explore key topics such as the criminal justice system, crime scene investigations, evidence collection, forensic science, firearms safety, first aid, physical fitness and active shooter response training.
“Beyond learning about public safety, participants will also cultivate life skills in areas like leadership, communication and teamwork,” said Deputy Chief Mark Ozaki. “Our goal is to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders, while giving them valuable insights into the important work our officers, dispatchers, and professional staff do every day.”
Registration is now open and must be completed by May 9. Space is limited, and selected applicants will be notified following a review process. Parents or guardians may submit applications on behalf of their child by completing the online registration form: https://kauaipd.seamlessdocs.com/ng/fa/juniorpoliceacademy.
