Noewehikehauokalani Carlene Mahi
Noewehikehauokalani Carlene Mahi passed away at her home in Anahola, Kaua‘i on Jan. 18, 2025, at the age of 57.
She now joins beloved family preceded in death including her hulu kupuna Edgar Miki‘ele and Helen Kaipuwai Waiau, John Mahihelelima and Rose Louise Hiona Mahi, her hulu makua James Keali‘imahi‘ai ‘Emi‘ole Mahi and Lady Kaipuwai Ululani Kekua, sister Kawehilani Faylette Pearl Mahi, hanai brother Herbert “Boy” Kekua, daughter-in-law Jennifer P. Alamani and ‘Ilio Pepe Titah Girly.
Born on July 5, 1967, in Lihue, Kauai, she was affectionately loved as Mama Noe to her Mahi-Higa ‘Ohana.
She is survived by Glenn Higa Sr., their 9 offspring Heu‘ionalani Chiyoko (Chassidy), Glenn Kelena Jr. (Ali‘ipoe), Mikki Kawaiikaika, Tyrus Kekaulike (Annette), Rylan-James Kaimanaokalewa, Kamaleionalani, Makamaeonalani (Shaz-Lynn), Cyrus Kia‘iponookalani (Schelcie), Hinano Higa, ten mo‘opuna, one mo‘opuna kuakahi, sisters Kehaulani Kekua, Keali‘iwahine‘opu‘ulani Kekua, along with numerous family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m. at the Anahola Park and Clubhouse on Kaua‘i.
Ricky Yoshiichi Shigematsu
Ricky Yoshiichi Shigematsu passed away on March 1, 2025. He was born on July 15, 1947.
He worked as a sous chef and cook at the Kauai Beach Resort.
He was preceded in death by parents Torao and Yoshiko Shigematsu, brother Clyde Tamotsu Shigematsu, brother-in-law Richard Patrick Corr Sr. and daughter-in-law Maude Keiko Nalani Shigematsu.
He is survived by companion/partner Lori Ann Cabebe, sisters Karen (Miles) Tone, Wanda Corr, Lisa (Thomas) Potter, sister-in-law Alison (Eric) Okada, children Troy Shigematsu, Traci (Matthew) Tafiti, Keilen (Aimee) Shigematsu, hanai children Khyler Cabebe, Kanoe’okekai Cabebe, Chandi Lee Cabebe, 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Lihue Neighborhood Center. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., followed by service at 11 a.m. A celebration of life to follow.
Borthwick Kauai Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
