LIHU’E – Ocean Safety Bureau officials announce that online registration for the 2025 Keiki and Junior Lifeguard programs will begin on May 1 at 7:45 a.m. on the County’s website www.kauai.gov/JuniorLifeguardPrograms. Enrollment is limited.
The no-cost program will offer ocean safety awareness and lifesaving skills instruction.
The Keiki Lifeguard Program is available to children ages 8 to 11 who can swim and run 50 yards nonstop.
The Junior Lifeguard Program is open to youth ages 12 to 17 who can swim and run 100 yards nonstop.
The free program runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates:
• June 9 to 13, at Salt Pond Beach;
• June 16 to 20, at Hanalei Pavilion;
• June 23 to June 27, at Kalapaki Beach;
• July 7 to 11, at Salt Pond Beach;
• July 14 to 18, Hanalei Pavilion; and
• July 21 to 25, at Kalapaki Beach.
The State championship is scheduled to be held at Kaanapali Beach on Maui on Aug. 9.
Proof of birth certificate is required for each participant.
Participants will need to bring their lunch, sunscreen, goggles, and a towel to the training daily.
Program sponsors include the County of Kauai, Kauai Lifeguard Association, Hawaiian Lifeguard Association, and many generous businesses and individuals.
