Shizuko Shimabukuro
Shizuko Shimabukuro, of Eleele, passed away on March 10, 2025, at the age of 101. She was born in Lawai, Kauai, on Feb. 14, 1924, and was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband Choji Shimabukuro, siblings Maruyo Maedo, Kenichi Ikehara and Kenneth Ikehara.
She is survived by her son George (Diane), daughters Charlotte (Walter) Yasumoto, Jo Ann Harada, two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Takeko (Akira) Oyakawa.
Private services will be held. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Karen Kay Mumm Pavao
Karen Kay Mumm Pavao, of Kalaheo, passed away in Kailua, Hawaii, on March 10, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born in Missouri on June 30, 1940. She taught primarily third grade at Wilcox Elementary School for close to 30 years and was also a substitute teacher after retiring.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Lotus Mumm and husband of 50 years, Patrick Pavao.
Karen is survived by her son Layton (Chelsey) Pavao, grandsons Bradley Pavao and Thomas Pavao, brothers Doug Mumm, Dave Mumm, and Don Mumm, sister Nancy Mumm, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Lihue Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 12 to 4 p.m.
