KOKEE — A 60-year-old woman was rescued after suffering an injury at Ditch Trail on Monday.
On April 7, firefighters from the Waimea Fire Station and personnel from the American Medical Response medical team responded to the call a little before 5:30 p.m. for an injured hiker at Ditch Trail, off Camp 10 Road, also known as the Sugi Grove campsite, at Kokee State Park.
Truck 7 arrived on the scene and discovered a female hiker about a half mile into Ditch Trail with a visible ankle injury. Rescue personnel made contact with the woman and immediately put a splint on her ankle to prevent any further damage before loading her into a rescue stretcher, also known as a SKED, to extract her down the steep and unstable muddy slope.
Once on stable ground, firefighters used an Arizona Technitian’s Edge Kit to haul the SKED along the trail safely. Truck 7 then safely brought the injured hiker to the trailhead, where she declined further assistance and drove to the emergency room. Rescue personnel cleared the scene at around 9:35 p.m.
